Summary:

Nadia, a Pakistani-American girl, is chosen to a be a flower girl in her Aunt Laila’s traditional Pakistani wedding.  Beautiful designs made with medndi decorate her hands as part of her getting ready for the wedding.  Initially, Nadia is nervous about what others will think of her hands.  Nadia gains a deeper understanding and respect for her Pakistani culture.  Urdu is the language of Pakistan.  Several Urdu words are written into the text.  A pronunciation guide and the definitions are included in a note at the beginning of the book.
